Cochin International Airport plans to construct Jet Fuel Manufacturing Unit
In order to meet its fuel needs, Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) is in talks with the BPCL Kochi unit to construct a jet fuel manufacturing facility.
The discussions took place in Thiruvananthapuram during a meeting between BPCL stakeholders and Industries Minister P Rajeeve.
Although nothing has been decided yet, CIAL has submitted a proposal to build up a synthetic aviation fuel unit.
Due to the long lifecycles of aircraft and the development time of aircraft engines, it is difficult for the industry to transition quickly to new, low-carbon technologies.
Therefore, the introduction of bio-fuel or synthetic fuel as a replacement for conventional fuel is being considered.
In addition to the jet fuel manufacturing unit, CIAL is also looking into other large-scale projects in Kerala. One of these projects is the implementation of BPCL’s state-of-the-art bio CNG waste treatment plant in Kochi within a year.
This is part of the government’s efforts to promote sustainable practices in various sectors, including agriculture and road transportation.
