EIL invites bids for NRL’s polypropylene project
Engineers India Ltd (EIL) has floated tenders for the Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) polypropylene project in Assam, a development that is expected to strengthen India’s petrochemicals capacity and support the government’s “Make in India” push.
The polypropylene project forms part of NRL’s ambitious expansion plan, which includes increasing its refining capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 9 MTPA.
Polypropylene is a versatile polymer widely used in packaging, automotive components, consumer goods, textiles, and healthcare products.
Industry sources estimate the project cost at Rs 5,000–6,000 crore, with commissioning targeted in the next three to four years.
Once operational, the plant will help reduce India’s heavy dependence on imports of polypropylene and other polymers, which has been growing with the surge in consumption of packaged goods.
