The government has approved a Rs. 438 crore project to upgrade berths at New Mangalore Port, focusing on improving cargo handling efficiency. The upgrade will include modernisation of infrastructure to handle higher volumes and larger vessels.

The port is a key gateway for bulk commodities such as petroleum products, fertilisers, and coal.

Upgrading berth infrastructure is expected to reduce vessel turnaround time and enhance operational capacity.

The project will also support increased trade volumes and strengthen the port’s competitiveness along the western coast.
