SiCSem to build second semiconductor facility in Odisha at Rs 2,067 crore

Automotive Industries Oct 27,2025

SiCSem plans to establish a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Odisha with an investment of around Rs 2,067 crore.

The unit will focus on silicon-carbide (SiC) wafer processing, an advanced technology key to electric vehicles (EVs), renewable-energy inverters and high-performance industrial electronics.

Integrating upstream chip fabrication into India’s electronics ecosystem is a core part of the government’s strategy to reduce reliance on imports and build global competitiveness in semiconductors.

The Odisha plant marks one of the stronger domestic moves into this high-technology arena.

With the facility slated to generate ~1,000 direct jobs and further indirect employment in supply and services, the project will also foster regional industrial development in Odisha’s Info Valley industrial zone. It’s part of the eastern-India push to balance manufacturing beyond western and southern hubs.

Execution will hinge on technology partnerships, clean-room infrastructure and skilled labour availability. If the facility launches as planned, it could catalyse further chip investment flows into India, especially in SiC and power-electronics segments.
