Tender floated for MDO selection for Sugia closed coal mine in Jharkhand
Authorities have floated a tender to select a Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) for the closed Sugia coal mine in Jharkhand, aiming to revive the resource block and unlock its commercial potential.
The mine, which had been non-operational for several years due to geological and administrative challenges, is now being repositioned under a modern MDO framework to ensure efficient extraction and environmental compliance.
The MDO will be responsible for planning, mechanised mining operations, land development, and the deployment of safety and pollution-control systems.
The revived project is expected to generate local employment and contribute to Jharkhand’s mineral economy, which plays a significant role in India’s overall coal output.
Jharkhand has been revamping policies to encourage private sector participation in mining, particularly in closed or under-performing coal blocks.
