Vellalore to get a biogas plant at a cost of Rs 68 crore
Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran said that the clearence has been given to set up a biogas plant at Vellalore.
“The State has allocated ₹60 crore for a bio-gas plant in Vellalore. Tendering for the project has commenced and construction will begin in the coming months. Additionally, a bio-mining plant to manage legacy waste is in progress, along with plans for a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at the dumping site. This comprehensive approach aims to tackle waste processing issues and mitigate leachate problems,” he said.
Tenders for the Rs 68-crore plant would be called for next week, after a long wait.
The biogas plant is likely to have a capacity to process up to 100 tonnes of waste daily.
It means 100 tonnes less garbage would be dumped at the Vellalore dump yard per day.
