Vikram Solar approves Rs. 4,371 crore battery storage capex
Vikram Solar’s board has approved a Phase-I capital expenditure of approximately Rs.4,371 crore to establish a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility at Oragadam near Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The 5 GWh facility, to be developed through its subsidiary VSL Powerhive, is scheduled for commissioning by FY27 and will include advanced R&D and testing infrastructure.
This investment comes at a time when India is rapidly scaling renewable capacity, creating strong demand for grid-scale storage to manage intermittency.
The project will support both utility-scale and commercial storage requirements and reduce reliance on imported battery systems.
Over the long term, Vikram Solar plans to scale capacity to 30 GWh, positioning itself as a key domestic player in India’s evolving energy storage value chain.
