Sep 08,2025
The V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, has become the first port in India to produce green hydrogen.
The pilot project was inaugurated by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.
The green hydrogen generated will be used to power streetlights and an electric vehicle charging station within the port colony.
This initiative, which aligns with India’s broader green shipping and decarbonization goals, is expected to position VOC Port as a key green bunkering hub in South India.
