VOC Port pioneers green initiatives with Hydrogen and Solar Power
V. O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Thoothukudi has made a significant leap in its commitment to sustainability, becoming the first port in India to successfully produce green hydrogen.
The port has also surpassed 1 MW of rooftop solar power generation, marking it a leader in green energy adoption within the maritime sector.
These achievements were announced during a conference on "Green Ports and Shipping" and are part of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways' broader initiative to transition the industry towards a net-zero emission future.
In addition to its green hydrogen and solar milestones, VOC Port is also working on establishing a pilot green methanol bunkering facility and a project to produce green methanol from municipal solid waste, further cementing its role as a pioneer in sustainable maritime practices.
